2nd job fair for 2020 U.S. Census coming to Toccoa

The second 2020 U.S. Census job fair is slated to return to Toccoa next week.

The 2020 Census begins April 1, 2020 and the U.S. Census Bureau is looking for men and women to work either full or part-time.

To be eligible, you must be at least 18 years old, have a valid Social Security number, and be a U.S. citizen.

The next recruitment will be held Friday, September 13 from 10a to 1p at the Ninth District office on Queen St. in Toccoa.

The first Census job fair was held in August at the Ninth District Opportunity offices.

Ninth District Community Resource Director Paula Duley tells WNEG News about 15 people showed up from Toccoa-Stephens County and two from Franklin County to fill out an application and to learn more about working for the Census Bureau.

Duley says, however, hundreds of workers are still needed, not only in Toccoa-Stephens County, but also for surrounding counties to work in a variety of jobs, including census takers, recruiting assistants, office staff, and supervisory staff.

And while some census takers will be going door-to-door out in the county, Duley says this also a good job for people who live in town and don’t have a vehicle.

Census takers are needed to work in the neighborhoods in Toccoa.

Information gathered from citizens during the next Census will help determine the amount of federal funding each county will receive.

Duley says a wide variety of programs administered through Ninth District Opportunity depend soley on federal dollars.

Some of the state and federal programs administered through the Ninth District Opportunity include, the Home Heating Program, Weatherization Program, Pell Grants for College, Meals on Wheels, the Reduced School Lunch Program, and the Emergency Relief Program to name a few.

If you are interested in working with the U.S. Census Bureau, you can stop by the Ninth District office on Queen Street on Friday, September 13, between 10a and 1p to fill out an application, or you can go online to https://census2020.gov/jobs.
