$20K worth of illegal drugs uncovered in Cornelia
Earlier this week, in Habersham County, a Cornelia man was arrested after authorities uncovered $20,000 worth of drugs.
On Wednesday, the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, the Department of Community Supervision, the Department of Corrections’ K-9 Unit, and the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office executed a search warrant of the residence at 277 Hubert Hill Road, in Cornelia.
The home is the residence of 52-year-old John Mark Sims.
The search warrant was executed following a 6-months-long investigation that led authorities to Sims.
Inside the residence, authorities seized 6-ounces of methamphetamine, 5-ounces of marijuana, a handgun and $1,660.
The street value of the illegal narcotics was $20,000.
Sims was arrested and charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of marijuana.
He was then transported to the Habersham County Detention Center.
The Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office is a multi-agency unit that consists of the following Sheriff’s offIces: White, Lumpkin, Towns, Banks, Jackson, Habersham, Stephens, Rabun, and Franklin counties; and the following police department and other agencies: Cleveland, Lavonia, and the Toccoa Police departments, the Georgia National Guard Counter Task Force, the Department of Public Safety, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
