2023 Summer Movie Series continues tomorrow with screenings of The Bad Guys

The 2023 Summer Movie Series continues Thursday, July 20, with The Bad Guys. The morning showing will be at 10 a.m., with the evening showing at 7 p.m.

After a lifetime of legendary heists, notorious criminals Mr. Wolf, Mr. Snake, Mr. Piranha, Mr. Shark and Ms. Tarantula are finally caught. To avoid a prison sentence, the animal outlaws must pull of their most challenging con yet—becoming model citizens. Under the tutelage of their mentor, Professor Marmalade, the dubious gang sets out to fool the world that they’re turning good.

The annual Summer Movie Series features family-friendly movies at the Historic Ritz Theatre, located at 139 Doyle Street in downtown Toccoa, every Thursday in June and July. Tickets are $1, and concessions are available, with drinks and snacks $1 each. Tickets are available at the door before each showing.

Toccoa Event Coordinator Misty Richardson says they have been able to keep prices low in order to offer the fun of the 2023 Summer Movie Series to as many local children as possible.

“Concessions are still a dollar for a drink or a snack, so entrance a dollar, snack a dollar,” she said.

The Summer Movie Series will conclude with the movie, Thor: Love and Thunder, on July 27.

Richardson told WNEG News that Minions: The Rise of Gru, which had been scheduled as the first movie of the 2023 Summer Movie Series, but had been canceled due to the projector issues, has been added back to this summer’s schedule in conjunction with the July 28 Back-to-School Bash.

“We are going to show the Minions – the one we had to miss because the projector broke,” she said. “We’re going to do that the night of our back-to-school bash, which is scheduled for July 28. So Friday, July 28, we’ll have the Back-to-School Bash outside the Ritz and then at 7 p.m., we’ll show the movie.”

She said the free Back-To-School Bash will include an inflatable obstacle course, school supplies, snacks, face painting and more.

“We’re still working out all the details,” she said. “It’s been a yearly event for us, so we are starting the planning phase of that. It will be the 28th and I believe it will start at 5 p.m. and all the activities for the kids are free.”
