2021 Ida Cox summer music series starts this weekend

Main Street Toccoa is kicking off its Ida Cox summer music series this Saturday, June 5.

The annual summer music series runs through August.

Main Street Manager Christian Hamilton says this year’s concert series will be a combination of returning and new performers.

Hamilton says Toccoa Jazz has opened the summer concert series for several years in a row, and again is the first headlining act of the 2021 Ida Cox Music Series.

Carrie Bowmen Sams, winner of Open Mic Monday in the category of singer/songwriter, will be the opening act at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The series is named for Ida Cox, who was born Ida Prather in Toccoa before going off to make her mark in the music world in the first part of the 20th century.

She started as a vaudeville performer and was one of the pioneers of what we now know as the blues.

The series features different musical genres each week – from country to jazz.

The weekly Saturday concerts are free and feature both opening and headlining acts from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. in downtown Toccoa on Doyle Street between Sage and Pond streets.
