2018 Main Street Toccoa Awards Reception

Toccoa honors a number of businesses and individuals at its annual Main Street Awards ceremony.

The yearly event last night at the Historic Ritz Theatre at the Schaefer Center in downtown Toccoa brought city officials, downtown business owners, and others together to look back at the last year in downtown.

Toccoa Main Street Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said the city is pleased to recognize the many award winners for their contributions to downtown Toccoa in 2018.

Toccoa Commissioner Terry Carter presented the Most Original Business award to Tugalo Station.

He said Tugalo Station is a great addition to downtown.

This year’s Downtown Anchor Award was awarded to WNEG.

Toccoa Commissioner David Austin said WNEG is a staple of the community.

The following won awards at the reception:

Downtown Excellence Award: Puerto Nuevo.

Outstanding Community Service: The Toccoa-Stephens County Public Library.

Main Street New Comer Award: Angel Oak Home.

Bill Good and Davis Martin received Special Recognition for Royal Cleaners.

Lastly, Mike Van Minos was awarded the Dedicated Downtowner.

Meanwhile, Crosby said the Main Street Awards also provide the city a chance to thank the volunteers that make all of the events and activities possible in downtown Toccoa.

Main Street Toccoa said there was a net gain of 11 new businesses in Toccoa’s downtown district in 2018.

Goals for 2019 include the continued renovation of the Historic Ritz Theatre, Wayfinding Signage, Historic downtown Toccoa Beautification, and the rural zone designation.
