2 teachers receive positive COVID-19 test result in Stephens County

The Stephens County School System has released another COVID-19 update.

According to the update, Stephens County Middle School administration was notified of a teacher who tested positive for COVID-19.

Additionally, Big A Elementary School administration was notified of a student who received a positive COVID-19 test result; later, the administration was notified of another student who received a positive COVID-19 tests.

Following the Department of Public Health’s instructions, the system has notified parents of all exposed students. The exposed teachers and students will be required to quarantine from school for 14-days.

The update list two staff members with a positive COVID-19 test, 14 staff members quarantined at home, and 78 students quarantined at home.

The update does not show how many students have a positive COVID-19 test result.

The school system notes that these numbers represent current active cases as of August 28, 2020. The numbers are not a running total.

The Stephens County School System decided to track COVID-19 throughout the system after School Superintendent Dr. Daniel Oldham presented it to the Board of Education during its meeting earlier this month.

During the meeting, Oldham explained that each week the report will track how many students and staff have positive COVID-19 test results, and the number of students and staff members who are quarantined at home due to COVID-19 exposure.
