2 Elections, 1 Precinct tomorrow in Stephens County

The November General Run-off and the May Primary Re-run elections are tomorrow in Stephens County.

Beginning at 7 a.m., residents of Stephens County will come to the Stephens County Senior Center, located on Rose Lane in Toccoa, to cast ballots until polls close at 7 p.m.

Stephens County Registrar Bill Cochran says the polls will be set up differently this election day.

The Stephens County Senior Center will have one side dedicated for the November General Run-off Election.

The other side of the Senior Center will have polls set up for the May Primary Re-Run Election.

Cochran says that the poll workers have been in training leading up to election day.

In the November General Run-off, voters will select their candidate for Secretary of State and Public Service Commissioner.

In the May Primary Re-run, some voters, who meet certain criteria, will cast ballots in the District 28 State Representative race.

District 28 Representative Dan Gasaway is vying against Republican Candidate Chris Erwin.

However, Cochran says not everyone will be eligible to vote in the re-run.

“There’s some parameters around this election (House 28 Special Primary),” he explained. “If a voter voted Democrat in the May Primary, they cannot vote in this one. The voters have to have been registered to vote by April 24th. They either voted Republican or Non-Partisan in the May Primary or did not vote. Or, have not subsequently become ineligible to vote (in the House District 28 special primary) by either moving out of the District or by felony conviction.”

If you meet the requirements and cast a vote in the re-run election tomorrow, also, remember to vote in the Run-off election before leaving the voter precinct.

Again, you will have to indicate to the Registrar which races you want to cast ballots in.
