1st Town Hall public forum draws crowd

This past Saturday was the first Town Hall public forum held under the leadership and guidance of Stephens County Board of Commissioners Chairman Michelle Ivester.

With several residents in attendance; Ivester was faced with several questions regarding a multitude of subjects.

Ivester told WNEG News that she felt the Town Hall public forum was a success.

“I’m so excited,” said Ivester. “I thought the turnout was great, especially with it being the first Town Hall we’ve had. There were a lot of great serious questions asked. I really hope that I was able to shed some light on most of the questions that people had.”

One question Ivester was asked during the public forum was whether the county considered senior citizens a priority.

Ivester reiterated to WNEG News about where the senior citizens stand on her list of priorities.

“Senior citizens are at the top of our list of priorities, they’ve lived here most of their lives and they’ve paid their fair share in taxes, so it’s only fair that we take care of them,” Ivester continued. “We will continue to see that they have things to do at the Senior Center, and that we will find them a director that shows them the respect they deserve. Lisa (Thomas) will be so hard to replace, but we will make sure that they are treated the way she treated them.”

Also in attendance were Commissioner Debbie Whitlock and Vice Chairman Dean Scarborough.

The next Town Hall public forum will be held on April 21, at 2:00 p.m. in the Historic Court House’s Court Room.
