18-year-old arrested after firing a gun several times in downtown Toccoa

The Toccoa Police Department is currently investigating a shots fired call that came in over the weekend.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize around 3 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, officers were dispatched to East Doyle Street in reference to shots fired.

Mize says the complainant state he woke up to the sound of three gunshots, he then looked out his window and saw muzzle flash as he heard two more gunshots.

According to the caller, two subjects were walking up the sidewalk towards Big A Road.

When officers began processing the scene they located four shell casings in the area.

Dispatch notified officers that multiple subjects were seen leaving the area.

An officer got out with Colton Addison, 18, of Toccoa and a juvenile female. A search revealed a gun on Addison and he was placed in a patrol car.

The juvenile female told officers that Addison was her ex-boyfriend who lived with her at her aunt and grandmother’s house on Highland Avenue.

After arguing all day, she had walked away towards Veteran’s Park to meet a juvenile male. It was at that time that the juvenile female received a call from her Aunt, telling her that Addison had left the residence and had a gun and a magazine with him.

While walking on E. Doyle Street, Addison showed up and the juvenile male took off towards W. Doyle Street.

As the juvenile female began walking back towards her house, Addison pulled out the gun and shot in the air three times and on the ground twice, while yelling obscenities towards the juvenile male.

Addison then threatened to shoot himself and stated how easy it would be to put a bullet in her head.

Mize says both juveniles and their guardians were interviewed at the Police Department.

Colton Addison was arrested and charged with aggravated assault under the family violence act, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain crimes, possession and carrying a concealed weapon and discharge of a gun or pistol near a public highway.

He was transported to the Stephens County Jail.
