10 years later, Robert Simmons murder still unsolved

On Friday, the Toccoa Police Department along with the family of Robert Simmons, who was murdered in 2011, passed out flyers urging anyone with information regarding his death to come forward.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, ten years ago the Toccoa Police Department received a call for assistance after Simmons’ family members found him unresponsive at his Glendale Apartment Complex residence in Toccoa.

Katina Aaron is the sister of Robert Simmons.

She says it’s been 10 years since her brother’s murder and asks that anyone with information to please come forward.

“If anyone knows something just say something. It could be your brother or sister or mother and you would want to know. It’s been ten years now, and its time to get justice. His mother is still waiting for this justice,” she said.

Ebony Tyree is the daughter of Robert Simmons. She says her father had many friends when he was alive and now is the time for those friends to come forward and let the police know what happened to him.

“There are a lot of people that know what happened. It’s just time for them to step up and say something. My dad, you know, a lot of people knew him, and they claimed to be his friends. Well, it’s time for them to show that friendship and say something. It’s just time,” she said.

National human rights organization New Order and its Founder and CEO Gerald Rose has joined the family to help spread the word about Robert Simmons death, but also, to demand that law enforcement continue to investigate this murder until justice is served.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Toccoa Police Department are asking anyone with information about Simmons’ death to contact the GBI office in Cleveland at 706-348-4866, the Toccoa Police Department at 706-282-3277, or the GBI Tip Line at 1-800-597-8477.
