1 chased, 2 arrested

On the afternoon of April 10, a member of the Franklin County Deputy Drug Interdiction Team stopped a vehicle on GA 17 inside the city limits of Canon.

The deputy spoke with the driver, Stanley Bernard Hunt, who told to the deputy that he did not have his driver’s license on his person.

The deputy then removed Hunt from the car and had Hunt stand between his own vehicle and the deputy’s patrol unit; however, as the deputy went to lookup Hunt’s information, Hunt ran from the scene with a purple bag in hand.

The driver ran from Ga 17 toward Cawthon Davis Road to Bond Avenue, then to Old Fish Pond Road area and then crossed Cawthon Davis Road again, but with nothing in his hand, according to witnesses.

The offender then ran into a field behind the Canon package store and then toward Flower Street.

Citizens called and reported a suspicious man running on Peoples Street, where, with the assistance of citizens, Hunt was captured without further incident.

During the excitement of the chase, deputies noticed a black Honda repeatedly circling the area.

The vehicle was then stopped.

The driver, Codney Jermaine Alexander, admitted to deputies he was attempting to pick Hunt up.

Hunt, 22, of the Nancy Hart Road area, was charged with obstruction of law enforcement officers, window tint violation, failure to have driver’s license on person, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, possession and use of drug related objects and littering from vehicle.

Alexander, 37, of Goldmine Village Road, was charged with obstruction of law enforcement officers and probation violation.
