Water Main Break Causes Falls Road Closure in Both Directions for Indeterminate Time

UPDATE: (11:17pm) – In the Georgia 511 alert regarding the road closure on Highway 17 Alternate/Falls Road, it is estimated that the road will be back open on June 3.

Georgia 511 is managed by Georgia DOT, so the information is legitimate… However, I have noticed that they are not always accurate: sometimes closures are cleared earlier, sometimes they are cleared later… But that does give us an idea what they are initially expecting and their best estimate on an opening time.

UPDATE/8:11pm: It has been confirmed that Hansen Road will remain closed for safety.

WNER News also just spoke with Stephens County Hospital and they are aware of the situation. They reconfirmed the necessity to access the hospital via scenic Drive/Rock Quarry Road. Here are a little more detailed directions from hospital administration:

Stephens County Hospital is still accessible by using Prather Bridge Road, then taking a left onto Scenic Drive – follow this to the stop sign and turn left onto Rock Quarry Road, then turn right onto Falls Road.

WNEG news just spoke to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize. He confirmed that a water main break on Falls Road has closed Falls Road in both directions for an indeterminate amount of time. City work crews just got on site. People trying to get to the hospital, Toccoa Falls college or Black Mountain will need to take Scenic Drive/Rock Quarry Road; the same for individuals trying to reach Toccoa from the college the hospital or up the mountain. Only local traffic allowed between Broad Street to Hansen Drive and Hansen Drive is currently closed as they do inspections to make sure it is safe. Closure of Falls Road is expected to last at least until morning. no interruption in water service is expected. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
