Veterans Day Observance reminds community of the importance of veterans

In observance of Veterans Day, on Monday, a service was held in the Pavilion at Camp Toccoa at Currahee.

Presented by the American Legion Post 104, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4346, the United States Marine Corps League Currahee Mountain Detachment 1303, and the American Veterans Post 600, several veterans, family members and friends gathered during the ceremony.

Veteran Rick Hack introduced speaker and Veteran Retired Army Major General James A. Guest.

Guest spoke about the importance of veterans.

“If you’ll just stop and think about it for a while, if we didn’t have veterans, we wouldn’t have a country. All you’ve got to do is look at the Southern Boarder and realize that if we weren’t able to defend ourselves, the people that wanted it, could come and get it. We the envy of the world, We have more freedom and more stuff than any other country in the world. Its our armed forces that come between us and the heathens,” Guest said.

Stephens County High Schools JROTC Color Guard presented the colors.

The invocation was led by Veteran David Cornelius and Veteran Don Alexander read the poem “They Did Their Share.”

Following the observance, the VFW Post 4346 hosted a hot dog lunch for everyone who attended.
