Update on Recent Wrecks, Fatalities Under Investigation

Recap of recent WNEG News stories reported online and on social media:

Yesterday morning, August 7, a collision at approximately 9 AM shut down lanes of traffic at the Jeanette Jamison intersection for more than one hour as Georgia State Patrol Troopers and local law enforcement and first responders worked a two-vehicle crash. WNEG News has requested the initial GSP report on the crash.

Yesterday evening, at approximately 7:30 p.m., a single vehicle motorcycle crash closed down both directions of travel on Falls Road, between Camp Toccoa Road and Black Mountain Road, for more than an hour as the motorcycle operator was transported for medical care of serious injuries and first responders and law enforcement cleared the scene.

Georgia State Patrol was in charge of the site, and WNEG News has requested the initial incident report from GSP.

WNEG News received an email this morning at 8:53 a.m. from the GSP Public Information office stating ” I am awaiting both reports to be sent and will have that information to you shortly.”

WNEG News will post a new story on wnegradio.com and our Facebook page as soon as those updates are made available.

Looking back at the fatal accident on Sunday on Highway 123 involving a collision between a truck and a motorcycle, WNEG News learned yesterday that an arrest has been made as a result of the investigation, and will update this report in news broadcasts later this morning after confirming the identity with GSP.

WNEG News has been advised of the identity of the Stephens County Jail inmate that passed away while in custody earlier this week, but after speaking yesterday evening at 10:30 p.m. with Georgia Bureau of Investigation officials, was advised to inquire with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office this morning to assure that all next of kin notifications have been made. WNEG News will contact the SCSO this morning and provide an update on that story as soon as we receive confirmation of notification
