Triple-A Says Gas Prices Could Go Lower Over Holiday Weekend

If you are one of thousands of Georgians hitting the road to be with loved ones for Christmas, it might be a little cheaper to get to there this year.

Triple-A says gas prices are expected to remain low and may even drop further in time for your trip.

On Monday, Triple A released its holiday gas price predictions for Georgia and neighboring States.

In our Stephens County, prices are averaging around $2.12 a gallon, but in other parts of the state they’re as low as $2.04.  Across the border in South Carolina, prices for regular gas are under $2 and as low as $1.87 a gallon in some places.

National spokesperson for Triple-A Mark Jenkins says prices are already at 2-year lows for the holidays, and should slip even lower in the next two weeks.

“Oil prices have been unable to gain significant upward momentum after OPEC announced plans to cut production,” he said. “If oil prices drop even further this week, that would reduce the cost of producing gasoline and allow additional price cuts at the pump.”

Triple-A reports Georgia motorists are saving nearly $10 on a full tank of gas, compared to what they paid in the summer. Sunday’s state average is also 9 cents per gallon less than what drivers paid on Christmas Day 2017.
