Toccoa City Commission to consider Roadway Repair project during tonight’s meeting

The Toccoa City Commission will meet later today for its regular scheduled meeting.

Items up for consideration include a resolution for a grant application, of a Highway 17 Alternate Roadway Repair project, and a City Facility Roofing Repair Project.

South Arts recently issued a notice of grant funding for Performing Arts Touring.

The Toccoa City Commission and the Toccoa Downtown Development Authority have made promoting culture and the arts through the Historic Ritz Theatre one of their goals for 2020.

The grant, if received, will allow the city to bring a professional regional act to the historic theatre, and will include a free added educational component for the benefit of the citizens of Toccoa.

The total cost to bring a regional act to the Ritz Theatre is $4,000. The grant, if received, is a 50/50 cash match and would bring the cost to the city to $2,000.

The Highway 17 Alternate Roadway repair project is to repair the road near the Stephens County Hospital that was damaged due to a water main break earlier this month.

The City has received an estimate of $18,700 from Thomason Construction to complete the repairs, which includes preparing the base and laying asphalt to repair the roadway.

If the Toccoa City Commission approves the project, then the repairs will be paid for out of the City Reserve Funds.

Lastly, the Toccoa City Commission will consider a motion approving the repairs of several City Facility Roofs.

Specifically, the three buildings that make up the project includes the building Doyle Street Community Center at Doyle Street Park, the Recycling Center, and a Utility Storage Building.

The city has received an insurance claim of $36,292.02 for wind damage from the city’s insurance carrier, Gallager and Bassett.

The proposed plan is to use City Reserve Funds to make up the difference to complete the project.

The Toccoa City Commission will meet at 5:00 p.m. this afternoon inside the City Commission Court Room at City Hall. For questions call city staff at 706-886-8451.
