TFD upgraded to Class 2 Public Protection Classification from ISO, Toccoa residents and business owners will see lower insurance premiums

The City of Toccoa has announced that the Toccoa Fire Department has been upgraded to a Class 2 Public Protection Classification by ISO.

During the Toccoa City Commission meeting on Monday, the Toccoa Fire Department was recognized for this new classification.

Toccoa Mayor Jeanette Jamieson thanked the Fire Department.

“The dedication, training and ability of the employees of the Toccoa Fire Department have once again resulted in the lowering of class designation of our community.  This results in the lowering of insurance rates for the area covered by these outstanding employees.  It is important for our citizens to know that they have the finest fire protection available, and that the lowering of Class designations affects the cost of homeowners and business insurance rates,” she said.

Commissioner Gail Fry says the Fire Fighters are always kind to the citizens they encounter.

“You won’t find a better team than our Fire Department.  They continuously train in order to provide protection for our citizens.  They participate in community and school events providing fire safety educational opportunities.  The City of Toccoa is proud of this team and what they do for our community.”

Commissioner Terry Carter says this means residents of Toccoa will have lower insurance premiums.

“I’m proud of the City’s continued efforts to lower the ISO rating.  The Chief and his team of professionals have worked hard to not only maintain, but now lower the rating.  These efforts translate in higher quality fire protection and lower insurance premiums for our residents,” Carter said.

City Manager Billy Morse says the ISO rating requires a lot of team effort.

“The Toccoa Fire Department operates at a very high level of expertise and professionalism; and can be considered as one of the elite Fire Departments in the nation,” Morse said.

The ISO studies a community’s structure fire suppression capabilities and provides that information to insurance companies to assist in determining local premiums.

In 2015, the Toccoa Fire Department received a rating of 3, with a Class 4 rating prior to that.
