Tennessee plane crash has local ties

UPDATE: 5/8/23 4:30 p.m. – WNEG continues to monitor the ongoing investigation into the fatal Polk County plane crash that occurred yesterday evening around 7 p.m.  Although local officials confirmed early in the day that the incident had been fatal for the pilot/sole occupant of the plane, and the FAA incident report confirms the crash was fatal, authorities with the FAA and local agencies have yet to make official identification of the pilot. We will continue to update the website and Facebook platforms as new information becomes available.

A Chattanooga TV station reports and local law enforcement in Polk County TN are reporting a single engine plane crashed there Sunday night. The plane was registered and believe to be piloted by well know Toccoa area doctor who operates a popular plastic surgery practice in Banks County at Banks Crossing

The plane is registered to Georgia Company of Aspiring Flyers LLC of Clarkesville and the GA Secretary of State office shows Lionel D. Meadows as the owner of the LLC. Unofficially, WNEG has been told Dr. Meadows was piloting the plane and was its only occupant.  Weather conditions are suspected as a contributing factor to the crash which occurred around 7:30 p.m. near Reliance, TN in the very mountainous region of extreme southeast Tennessee where the states of Tennessee, Georgia and North Carolina border.
WNEG will update this report as more information becomes available from FAA, NTSB and Polk County officials.
