Stephens County Elections Office has started sending out Absentee Ballots

The Stephens County Elections Office has started sending out absentee ballots for the upcoming General Primary Election.

According to Interim Elections Supervisor Nora Waters the General Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, May 24.

The May election is a primary election and will require voters to choose a ballot from among: Democratic, Republican and Non-Partisan. Voters can choose only one ballot.

Ballot selection effects eligibility to vote in any runoff for the primary.

Waters says voters can cast their vote by absentee ballot, advanced voting, or by casting their vote in-person on May 24.

If you would like to request an absentee ballot, you must request one no later than May 13. Persons voting by absentee ballot must fill out an application but can “opt-in” to receive mail-in absentee ballots for the rest of the calendar year 2022.

Absentee Ballots must be returned to the Registrar’s Office no later than 7:00 p.m. on May 24.

Advanced, or early voting will begin on May 2 and will run Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily at the Stephens County Historic Courthouse.

Saturday voting will be held on May 7 and May 14 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Election Day voting will be on May 24, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the Stephens County Senior Center, located at 55 Rose Lane, in Toccoa.

Additionally, Waters says logic and accuracy testing for the voting machines started on Monday at 9:00 a.m. at the Historic Courthouse. The testing will include the preparation and testing of the electronic poll books, electronic ballot markers, printers, and scanners for use during the election. The procedures will continue until completed and are open to the public.

As WNEG News previously reported, the Stephens County Board of Commissioners have agreed to use Dominion Voting to assist in the Logic and Accuracy testing along with one week of voting.
