Single-Vehicle Wreck Friday in Habersham Results in Death of Stephens Co. Resident

Toccoa resident Larry Hart, 73, of Toccoa, has been identified as the passenger in a fatal single-vehicle crash that took place on Friday afternoon, May 31 in Habersham County.

According to Habersham County Public Information Officer Rob Moore, units from Habersham County Emergency Services and the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office responded Friday afternoon to a single-vehicle wreck on Ga. 115 West at Half Moon Court. The wreck was dispatched at 1:05 p.m. 

Ga. 115 was shut down in both directions between Fred Pitts Road and initially Habersham Mills Road, then McConnell Road.

Ga. 115 reopened at 4:50 p.m.

According to the preliminary Georgia State Patrol report, the crash investigation revealed a 1937 Chevrolet Pickup was traveling south on Georgia 115 when the driver, Jerry Neal, 78, of Clarkesville, lost control and traveled off the roadway, striking the ditch. The passenger, Larry Hart, 73, of Toccoa, was ejected and succumbed to his injuries. The driver was transported to NEGMC – Gainesville with serious injuries. No charges have been issued at this time.
