Yesterday, Sept. 5, at around 4:40 p.m., the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, working in conjunction with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office as well as Georgia State Patrol, the Department of Community Supervision and other state and local agencies, apprehended and arrested wanted felon Rocky Garrett.

According to a press release posted to the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, at approximlately noon on the 5th, “deputies with the Sheriff’s Office S.T.I.N.G. Unit were driven to a wooded area near the subject’s last known residence on Old Jarrett Rd. The deputies set up in the woods to conduct surveillance on the subject. Meanwhile, an agent with the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office coordinated with Georgia State Patrol’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit to execute a search warrant on the house.

While agents were placing controlled phone calls to Garrett’s landline, deputies observed Garrett walking from the woods toward his home. Deputies then surprised and apprehended him. They took Garrett into custody without incident.

After Garrett was taken into custody, SWAT Troopers were called off the search. Deputies, agents, and a parole officer conducted a search of Garrett’s home with consent. No illegal objects were found. Garrett was then transported to the Stephens County Jail without incident.”

Garrett, 54 of Toccoa, was arrested for Felony Probation Violation in Stephens County. He also has warrants from Franklin County for Aggravated Battery and Terroristic Threats and Acts. Garrett remains in the Stephens County Jail without bond.

According to the press release, “such a large operation was planned due to recent threats toward law enforcement officers, as well as previous law enforcement experience with Garrett in 2006 when he was arrested for Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Obstructing Law Enforcement Officers, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.”
