SCBOE to Hold 1st Public Hearing On Budget Tonight

The Stephens County Board of Education will meet tonight at 5 p.m. for the first public hearing on the Fiscal Year 2025 School System Budget. The Public Hearing will be held at the Stephens County School District  Office, 191 Big A School Road.

WNEG News, at last week’s Board of Education work session, requested a copy of the proposed budget, or a proposed budget summary, and were told that no copies of the tentative budget were available until after approved by board members at the May 21 Board meeting, which will take place at 5:30 p.m. tonight, following the public hearing. No budget documents were attached to the agenda packet made available online.

According to a notice on the homepage of the school district website, public hearings on the budget will be held tonight, and again on Thursday, May 30, from 7:30-8 a.m. and Tuesday, June 18, from 5-5:30 p.m. at the District Office.

Also on tonight’s agenda is a graduation update from SCHS Principal Jessica Simmons, the monthly finance report, a presentation of the CTAE FY25 Perkins V Local Plan, approval of several technology and nutrition department expenditures, and approval of the 2024-25 payscale and supplements.  A facilities update is also scheduled, including information on upgrades to some of the district’s athletic facilities.
