SCBC will meet today in the Grand Jury Room for Regular Scheduled meeting

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners will meet this evening at 5:30 p.m.

Today’s meeting will not be held in its usual location; but will be held in the Stephens County Grand Jury Room at the Stephens County Government Building.

Up for consideration are two land use public hearings. The first is for a rezoning request from petitioner Sonya Green for the property located at 2396 Prather Bridge Road. Green is requesting .66 acres of the property be rezoned from Agriculture Residential to Residential Single and add to a parcel for a garage.

The second public hearing is for a rezoning request from James Thomason, for the property located at 6506 Mize Road, in Toccoa. The property is currently zoned as Agriculture Intensive. Thomason is requesting to rezone 1.44 acres to agriculture residential for a single-family residence.

The commission will hold a public hearing for the first reading of a new alcohol license for Harjeet, LLC doing business as Lucky Food Mart.

During the regular portion of the meeting, the commission will consider a motion to approve fiscal year 2022 budget amendments for the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, Jail, and District Attorney’s office.

The commission will also consider a motion to enter into an intergovernmental agreement with the Stephens County Board of Education for a land exchange located on Eastanollee Road.

As WNEG News previously reported, the Stephens County Board of Commissioners recently approved a motion for the land exchange.

At that meeting, last month, County Administrator Phyllis Ayers explained that the exchange would take 4.74 acres, located at 582 Eastanollee School Road from the county and exchange it for 3.70 acres, located at 338 Virginia Drive with the Board of Education.

Since the Board of Education has agreed to the land exchange, the next step will be during today’s meeting when the Commission signs an intergovernmental agreement.

Again, today’s meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. inside the Grand Jury Room in the Stephens County Government Building.
