SCBC approve purchase order for new vehicle for SCSO

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners recently approved a motion for a purchase order for a new vehicle for the Sheriff’s Office not to exceed $36,000 for the police rated vehicle and $4,000 for the equipping of the vehicle using funds from the SPLOST VI account.

The original item presented to the board was for a used vehicle not to exceed $30,000; however, Commissioner Dennis Bell told his fellow commissioners that it would be better for the Sheriff’s Office to purchase a new vehicle that has a warranty, instead of buying used.

Commissioner Debbie Whitlock recommended the board approve the purchase of a new or used vehicle, so that the Sheriff’s Office could get the vehicle that they wanted.

When the commission brought the item up during the regular portion of the meeting.

The motion was approved unanimously.
