Salvation Army’s Annual Angel Tree Program goes Virtual this Year

By MJ Kneiser, WLHR

The Salvation Army is now asking for individuals, and families to help a needy child at Christmas by participating in their annual Christmas Angel Tree program.

And this year, because of the pandemic, Toccoa Center Service Director Rebecca Dixon says it’s being done virtually.

“We are actually doing this online mainly,” she said. “We still have Angel Tree tags hanging at the Walmarts in Toccoa, Cornelia, and Clayton but we’re really encouraging folks to click on the link and then set the parameters. If you want more than ten angel tags, just email me and I’ll set you up with the number of angels you would like,” she said.

The web site she said will walk you through whether you want to help a boy or girl and how many angels you would like.

And that web address for the virtual Salvation Army Angel Tree program is tsamm.org/angeltree.

Dixon said there’s only a month for people to go online and adopt an angel and purchase the gifts, so time is of the essence and they need people now.

“We have just one month left to be able to adopt the angels and get the gifts back. Our distribution day is December 9. Now we need donors to come along and adopt an angel provide at least one outfit and one to three toys off the child’s wishlist,” Dixon said.

Dixon said last year, they helped over 900 families via the Angel Tree program but because of the economic impact caused by the pandemic, they expect to help even more people from a much wider area.

“Our outreach has gotten larger. We’re seeing more people asking for help from Clayton, Cornelia, and all of the outlying cities in Stephens, Habersham, Rabun, Franklin, and all the area counties,” she noted.

Civic, church, and non-profit groups can also participate in the Angel Tree program by contacting Dixon if they want multiple Angels.

“If you want more than ten or you want me to select them for them, they can email me at [email protected] and I can set them up,” she said.
