Yesterday evening, July 22, at approximately 7 p.m., traffic was disrupted in downtown Toccoa when a crash flipped a car upside down on W. Tugalo Street at the corner of  N. Alexander Street. The female driver was airlifted for medical care of unknown injuries. Georgia State Patrol was in charge of the scene and investigation into the crash.

At 10:15 a.m. this morning, WNEG News received the initial report from GSP regarding the crash, which stated that, at 6:40 p.m. on July 22, a GSP Trooper attempted to stop a Toyota Camry for speeding on Georgia 17 in Stephens County. The driver of the sedan failed to stop and initiated a pursuit.

According to the report, “the trooper utilized a Precision Immobilization Technique, or PIT maneuver, to terminate the pursuit, and the Camry rotated and struck an embankment, causing it to overturn. The driver was life-flighted to Northeast Georgia Medical Center – Gainesville with serious injuries.”

The initial report also indicates that the driver, Juanita Arrowood, 39, of Etowah, Tennessee, was found to be in possession of narcotics and suspected to be DUI. Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team B, or SCRT-B, and the Department of Public Safety Office of Professional Standards were both notified of the incident. Charges are pending depending on the results of the SCRT investigation.

WNEG News will continue to monitor this story and provide updates as they become available, but advises that the medical condition of the driver is unlikely to be released due to privacy laws, and will not be available on WNEG radio platforms.
