One in Custody Following Afternoon Gunfire Near Regency Inn
Update 8:10 PM: Just spoke with Chief Mize: there is minimal information available, as this is an active and ongoing investigation. One individual is in custody and is refusing to speak, Mize said. More information on the identity and location of the second individual is still being sought. Mize said the Crime Investigation Division (CID) has taken charge of the investigation. The information available at this point is that two individuals were shooting at each other; no one was hit, one vehicle was struck and one gun has been recovered. WNEG News is on scene near Regency Inn on W. Currahee where a shooting took place a little over an hour ago. According to officials on scene and involved in the investigation, there is one suspect in custody. Law enforcement officials are searching the area for a weapon with K-9 assistance. According to Chief of Police Jimmy Mize, two individuals were in an altercation when shots were fired, with both individuals allegedly shooting at each other. The suspect arrested will not give the identity of the other individual, nor the reason for the altercation.
