Main Street Toccoa reschedules Arbor Day Ceremony

Main Street Toccoa has rescheduled its Arbor Day tree planting ceremony.

It was originally planned for this Friday, however, after Stephens County Schools called off school for today, Main Street Toccoa decided to move the Arbor Day ceremony to next Friday, February 28 at 2 p.m.

Main Street Toccoa’s Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby says on Friday, February 28,  the city is planning to plant a white oak and two dogwood trees on the courthouse lawn.

Crosby says for 14 years, the City of Toccoa has been recognized as a Tree City USA.

According to the Arbor Day Foundation, in order to become a Tree City USA, a municipality must adhere to certain guidelines.

Those include, creating a Tree Board Department, pass a Tree Care ordinance, develop a Community Forestry Program with an annual budget of at least $2 per capita, and have an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

Again, the Arbor Day tree planting ceremony has been rescheduled to Friday, February 28, at 2 p.m. on the Courthouse lawn.

The public is invited to attend.
