Lott takes home first win of Open Mic Monday

The second annual Open Mic Monday at the Historic Ritz Theatre started on Monday.

Garrett Lott, of Maysville, took home the first win of the second season after dazzling the three-judge panel, compiled of professional writer Mike Coleman, Toccoa Librarian Shantell Grant and CASA staff member Chuck Taylor.

All of the night’s performances were live music, and Lott was the unanimous first place choice of the judges.

The next competition will be held on Monday, October 15.

Open Mic Monday is held every third Monday of the month through December and is a free event.

Interested performers can sign up by email at [email protected] or at the Historic Ritz Theatre the evening of the show on a first-come, first-up basis up until 6:30 pm.

Contestants will play two songs or perform for 10 minutes, whichever comes first.

Winners from each of the four nights will be invited back for a “Final 4” competition on January 21st to determine the ultimate Open Mic Monday competition winner.

The winning performer will get a paid gig as the opening act for the first Ida Cox music series performance in June of 2019.

The remaining dates are Oct. 15, Nov. 19, Dec. 17 with the final competition slated for Jan. 21, 2019.
