Local Ministry to Feed 2,000 at Thanksgiving, Needs Volunteers

A local ministry, Love Him, Love Them is preparing to serve meals to low-income, homeless and homebound individuals this Thanksgiving and they are asking for your help.

Linda Gunter is the founder of the ministry that has been serving meals to those in need every Thanksgiving for the past 10 years.

She says the Thanksgiving meal program has grown every year and this year, they are serving some 2,000 people in Franklin, Hart, and Stephens counties.

That’s why she needs as many people willing to help as possible.

“This year, we’re feeding over 2,000 in Franklin, Hart, and Stephens County,” she said. “We have some amazing people who are supporting us this year.”

But Gunter said they still need people to help out and an open meeting will be held this evening (Tuesday, November 26) for people to come and find out how they can volunteer on Thanksgiving.

“It’s not too late, if you want to have a Thanksgiving that you’ll never forget,” she said. “The volunteer meeting is Tuesday evening at 6p at the Boyd Outz Center in Lavonia. You can come and learn everything you need to know to deliver food. Or if you already have plans for Thanksgiving, you can still come and volunteer on Wednesday to help us get ready,” she said.

Gunter said they not only need people to help deliver the food on Thursday, they also need more supplies to help prepare the food, such as milk, butter, cranberry sauce and other items.

And there is yet another way to help out, according to Gunter and that is to pray for our communities, the country and Haiti, where Love Him, Love Them also ministers throughout the year.

Gunter says people will be able to come to the Boyd Outz Center and sign up to pray for 15 minutes.

“Beginning Wednesday at 9:30 in the morning there will be a designated center at the Boyd Outz Center where people can come and pray,” she said. “We’ll have two bulletin boards there with individuals we’ll be delivering to you can pray for and information on our ministry in Haiti. Haiti is a hot mess right now with civil unrest. Haiti needs to be healed and America needs to be healed. We need at least 96 people to pray over a 24-hour period.”

To sign up to pray you can text LHLT to 474747 or call 508-410-9318.

If you plan to come to the volunteer meeting this evening, Gunter also asks that you bring pairs of shoes that you no longer use to send to Haiti.

Again, the Thanksgiving volunteer meeting is tonight at 6p at the Boyd Outz Center in Lavonia.
