Indians Split in Tri-Team Doubleheader

The Stephens County Indians baseball team split a tri-team doubleheader defeating West Hall 8-5 and falling 10-0 to the host team Habersham Central Saturday at Raider Field.

The Indians banged out 13 hits in the win over the Spartans. Findley Ward had a home run and 2 RBI’s, Konnor Loudermilk had 2 hits, including a triple, and 2 RBI’s. Craig Thurmond and William Roush added 1 RBI each. Thurmond and Ethan Smith had 3 hits each for Stephens County, and Landon Carter had 2 hits.

Loudermilk pitched six strong innings allowing just 2 earned runs on 3 hits and striking out 8. Noah Holbrooks picked up the save with a scoreless 7th inning, though the Spartans did load the bases, but were turned away when Ward fielded a ground ball, stepped on 3rd base, and threw to 1st base for a game ending double play.

Earlier in the day West Hall fell to Habersham Central 5-3. The Spartans are now 1-6 on the season.

In the nightcap, Konnor Burrell pitched a complete game 1-hit shutout, and knocked in 4 runs with a home run and a triple to lead Habersham Central to the 10-0 win over Stephens County in five innings.

Maverick Chitwood and Hayden Gailey added 2 RBI’s each for the Raiders, now 6-1 on the season.

Holbrooks started the game and took the loss for the Indians, and Smith had the lone hit for Stephens County, now 4-4 on the season.

Stephens County will be back in action on Monday at Banks County with first pitch scheduled for 5:30 P.M. and airtime at 5:20 P.M. on WNEG.
