Hallee Shirley Leads Stephens County Varsity Indians Past Habersham Central Varsity Raiders

In softball action this week, Hallee Shirley collected three hits in three at bats as the Stephens County Varsity Lady Indians defeated the Habersham Central Varsity Lady Raiders 10-2 on Monday. Shirley doubled in the second inning, doubled in the third inning, and tripled in the fifth inning.

Habersham Central Varsity Raiders were the first to get on the board in the first when Emily Diffenderfer scored after tagging up, but the Lady Indians answered with a run to tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.

Stephens County Varsity Indians win came thanks, in part, to a six-run second inning when  AuBree Jackson laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run, Macie Davis singled, scoring one run, Shirley doubled, scoring one run, Kylee Glaze singled, scoring one run, and Addison Vandal doubled, scoring two runs.

The Lady Raiders scored one run in the top of the third on a solo home run to left field by Diffenderfer, but the Lady Indians added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Shirley doubled, and Riley Walker singled, each scoring one run.

Madyson Wilson earned the win for the Lady Indians, giving up nine hits and two runs over six innings, striking out four and walking none. Kaylan Barrett took the loss for Habersham. The starting pitcher went one and two-thirds innings, surrendering seven runs (two earned) on six hits, striking out one and walking two.

Stephens County Varsity Indians accumulated 12 hits in the game. Hutto and Shirley each collected three hits, while Walker collected two hits in four at bats. The Lady Indians didn’t commit a single error.  

Karsen Wade, Shelby Rinefierd, Emilee Oliver, and Diffenderfer each collected two hits for the Lady Raiders and Wade and Diffenderfer each drove in one run.

The Lady Indians are at home tonight against Oconee County, with a 5 p.m. first pitch.
