Progress is being made on reopening Falls Road, City of Toccoa Officials told WNEG News late Tuesday afternoon..

Tuesday at approximately 4:30 p.m., WNEG News spoke with Toccoa Utilities Director Harry Scott about the broken water main on Falls Road, and the resulting damage to the roadway and closure of the road.

He said that Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT)  is not involved in the water line or roadway repairs, and said that he expected the water line repairs to be finished by the end of the evening (Tuesday) and added that he would have updates on the roadway repairs today, May 29.

He talked about the specific water line that broke, which is one of four main water lines delivering water to the city from the higher-elevation at the water plant.

He confirmed that the contractor responsible for the GDOT bridge work on Falls Road was not responsible for this water line break and said there is no damage to the bridge itself, according to GDOT representatives.

Scott said that the cost for the water line and roadway repair will be significant.

He also addressed the issue of any citizens who may have temporarily experienced loss of water pressure when the line broke.

WNEG News will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
