City Commission to Consider Revised Billboard Variance for Mike Jones Ford

City Commissioners will meet in a called session Friday morning to consider a revised variance request from Fairway Advertising for billboard on the 17Bypass.

Last month, City Commissioners rejected a variance request to erect a 672 square foot sign for Mike Jones Ford saying the proposed sign was too large and violated the City’s sign ordinance.

Like the original proposal, City Manager Billy Morse says new sign as proposed would consist of two billboard panels, side by side, totaling 378 square feet.

“Fairway Advertising has submitted a second billboard request. It is a reduced size from the original request. Basically, it consists of signage that is 10.5 ft tall and two signs of 18 ft wide,” he said.

Though smaller, the new billboard is still slightly over the City’s sign ordinance limit of 160 square feet per panel and requires the City to approve a variance.

City Manager Billy Morse says even though the Planning and Zoning Commission has recommended approval, Commissioners will still discuss the new variance request Friday.

The called meeting to reconsider the Mike Jones sign variance request takes place Friday morning at 8a in the City Commission meeting room and is open to the public.
