Fastpitch Softball: Lady Indians Now 5-0 on the Season

 

In Varsity Lady Indians softball action last Thursday, August 8, pitcher Riley Walker was dominant in the circle, surrendering only three hits and three runs and walking three over seven innings while ringing up 11 strikeouts in the Lady Indians’ 4-3 victory over Habersham Central Varsity Raiders.

The Lady Raiders tacked the first score on the board in the first inning on a Shelby Rinefierd single that scored one, then added two runs in the third after Stephens County Varsity Indians committed an error. Stephens county tied the game at three in the top of the fifth with the help of a Walker single, but the Lady Indians didn’t take the lead until the top of the sixth when Kylee Glaze doubled with the score tied at three, scoring one run for the go-ahead. 

Stephens County’s Walker, Glaze, Macie Davis, and Hallee Shirley each collected one hit, and Shirley stole two bases.

Kaylee McCalmon took the loss for Habersham Central. The southpaw went five and two-thirds innings, surrendering four runs (one earned) on four hits, striking out two and walking three.

Rinefierd led Habersham Central Varsity Raiders with one run batted in. The catcher went 1-for-3 on the day. Karsen Wade, Rinefierd, and Emily Diffenderfer each collected one hit for Habersham Central Varsity Raiders. 

The Lady Indians, now 5-0 on the season, host Habersham Central tonight, Aug. 11, with the JV game starting at 4:30 p.m. and first pitch for the varsity Lady Indians at 6:30 p.m.
