Mr. John L. Addis

Mr. John L. Addis, age 67, of Toccoa, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

Born December 11, 1956 in Toccoa, GA, he was a son of the late Ora Belle “Penny” Thompson Crawford.

John retired in 2020 after 44 years of service in law enforcement as a police officer.  He was affiliated with the Toccoa Police Department since 1981 and had taught at the police academy in Athens for many years.  Before going into law enforcement, John worked at the Toccoa Fire Department and was a part of the recovery team when the Toccoa Falls dam broke in 1977.

Family members include his wife, Lee Adkins Addis of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Mary Addis, of Toccoa; daughter and son-in-law, Christina and Sean Bonchonsky of Roswell, GA; granddaughter, Makale Addis; grandson, Malaki Addis; sister, Pat York; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kendall and Carl Boxall of Maryland; two nephews; one niece; and several cousins.

The family will host a memorial service at two o’clock, Monday, September 23, 2024 at Toccoa First Methodist Church Cheek Hall.
