Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Bush Bond Walk & Race Set For Sept. 28

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office has announced it will be hosting its 6th Annual “Bush Bond” 10K/5K Walk and Run.

This race serves as a fundraiser for the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes (GSYH), a non-profit organization sponsored by the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association and private donors.

GSYH, with a mission of providing a safe, secure future for Georgia’s dependent, neglected and abused children, serves more than 130 children in full-time care on five campuses across the state. With support from sponsors and competitors, GSYH can continue to supply long-term residential and short-term emergency care for boys and girls between four and 20 years old, as well as those that choose to continue their education at a technical college or university.

The Bush Bond Race will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, at Yonah Dam on Yonah Dam Road. It will consist of three events: a 5K race, a 10K race, and the Bushbond Challenge Dual Run. The event will kick off at 8 a.m. with opening remarks by Sheriff Randy Shirley and a warm-up. The 5K will start at 8:15 a.m. The 10K will begin at 9:15 a.m. Awards will be given to the top three qualifiers of the 10K and 5K.

Register today at the link attached to this story on wnegradio.com. Pre-registration prices for competitors are $25 for adults, $15 for ages 12-17, and $40 for the Dual Run (5K/10K). Pre-registration ends Sept. 20.

Competitors can still register after the deadline and on race day at increased prices of $30 for adult, $20 for ages 12-17, and $55 for the Dual Run (5K/10K). Children who are 11 years old and under can run for free. T-shirts will only be available to those who pre-register.

Sponsors are also being sought to help defray organizational costs of the event by assisting with the purchase of t-shirts, awards, and complimentary water, sports drinks and snacks for each participant. Additional funds from sponsorships are put toward the event’s fundraising goal of $20,000. There are various levels of sponsorship determining the size and placement of logos on the event t-shirts and website. To become a sponsor, contact Capt. Stephen Stewart by email at [email protected] or by phone at (706) 491-0763 to receive a sponsorship packet. The sponsorship deadline is Sept. 18, 2024.
