Amtrak suspends Southern Crescent line as potential rail strike looms across the nation

Amtrak’s Southern Crescent has been suspended.

Due to the threat of the railroad strike, Amtrak has cancelled the Southern Crescent trains—which stop in Toccoa and Clemson.

While Amtrak is not going on strike, Norfolk Southern is involved as the Crescent uses Norfolk Southern’s Charlotte to Atlanta track.

Negotiations are ongoing between unions and railroad companies; however, if they don’t come to an agreement, a national rail strike could start Friday, September 16.

While Amtrak is not involved in negotiations, service has already been adjusted on track that could be affected by the dispute.

Today, September 15, marked the start of all long-distance Amtrak trains being canceled.
