SCHS Names Band Officers & Announces Award Winners
Stephens County High School Band Director, Derrick Nolen, has announced the band officers for the upcoming school year. Grayson Shirley and Lorelai Hamby were named Drum Majors for the marching band, and Blake Hill was named Band Captain.
Also, the Stephens County High School Band and Auxiliary held their annual awards ceremony last week. Among the special awards handed out were:
Auxiliary Best All-Around: Emma Moon, Erin Terrell
Outstanding Auxiliary Manager: Kinsey Speers who served faithfully for 3 years.
Auxiliary Director’s Award: Cortlin Ellis, Emma Moon, Kinsey Quick
National Marching Band Award: Stephen Watkins
John Philip Sousa Award: Dawson Jordan
Scholastic Achievement Awards: Dawson Jordan, Emma Moon

National Marching Band Award (“this award given annually to one high school student to recognize outstanding contributions on the marching field…it honors the musical contributions and dedication of student leaders whose example inspires others”): Stephen Watkins
John Philip Sousa Award (“The pinnacle of achievement in a high school band. Introduced in 1955 to honor the top student in the high school band, the John Philip Sousa Band Award recognizes superior musicianship and outstanding dedication….only one award may be given annually”): Dawson Jordan
Scholastic Achievement Awards (awards given annually to one male student and one female student with the highest GPAs in the band and aux program): Dawson Jordan, Emma Moon
Show Announcement for 2021: “Legends”…celebrating the legacy of the late Peter Green (Fleetwood Mac), Eddie Van Halen (Van Halen), and Neil Peart (Rush) and their impact on rock music (all passed in 2020)
