SCBC hires Project Manager for Splash Pad

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners continues to check items off its list to complete the Splash Pad Water Park.

At its regular scheduled meeting last week, the board awarded a bid for a project manager to oversee the construction at the Splash Pad Park.

According to County Administrator Phyllis Ayers, the county received two bids for project manager.

She says the lowest bid came from Michael Cleveland for a total of $45,000.

This was the second motion made by the board, in recent weeks, for the splash pad park.

As WNEG News told you earlier this month, the board signed an agreement for electric service through Hart Electric Membership Corporation for the splash pad.

In October of last year, the commission approved a motion awarding the design, delivery, and installation of the splash pad to Lanier Plans, DBA KORKAT.

Ayers says the splash pad is something the county has been planning for a few years, and those plans will soon come into fruition.

During the meeting in October, Vice Chair James Addison asked about adding a pavilion at the splash pad park; which, Ayers said the pavilion was intentionally left out of the bid package.

“I thought there was going to be some sort of covered area,” Addison said.

“Yeah, there’s a pavilion and bathrooms, but Randall and I, after many hours of discussion, decided to only bid out the splash pad part to the contractors, and Randall is going to handle the bidding of the pavilion and the bathrooms,” Ayers said.

Stephens County Building and Grounds Director Randall Cleveland said after years of work, he’s happy to see the county move forward with the Splash Pad Park.

“I’m just thrilled to get this underway after years, and we’re ready, I’m going out as far as bidding on the bathrooms and other stuff and get it underway,” Cleveland said.

Ayers added that Lanier Plans will focus on the grading and Splash Pad with Randall Cleveland biding out the pavilion and bathrooms.

At this time, no date has been set for the public to anticipate the Splash Pad being completed.
