Rev. Herbert E. Doud

Rev. Herbert E. Doud, age 97, of Eastanollee, GA, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2020 at the Stephens County Hospital.

He was born April 11, 1923, in Erie, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Raymond and Floy Morris Doud.

Rev. Doud attended Burns Elementary School, Gridley Junior High School and Strong Vincent High School all in Erie, Pennsylvania. He sang in the Glee Club and performed with the club at the 1940 World’s Fair in New York. He took piano lessons only one year, but became proficient at the keyboard. After he graduated in 1941, he hitchhiked to Atlanta to attend the Atlanta Bible College where he met his wife Sue Brown. He self-taught himself to play the accordion and used it for street meetings in downtown Atlanta. He would play and someone would preach. He had a great love of music and people; he served as a minister and was involved with missions. He was ordained in 1946 as a Minister of the Gospel. He served as Pastor of several Georgia Baptist churches which included White Hall Baptist Church, Blacks Creek Baptist Church, Pendergrass Baptist Church, Providence Baptist Church, Martin Baptist Church, and one mission church in Dublin, GA. In 1956 the Lord called him into Mission ministry, where he served Tugalo Baptist Association until his retirement in 1988. While serving as Associational Missionary, he worked with and supported numerous pastors of 44 churches. During his retirement, Rev. Doud served as Minister of Music at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and then as organist for 16 years at Liberty Hill Baptist Church. He was a faithful servant of the Lord, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Brown Doud, his son, Donny Doud, his parents Raymond Doud and Floy Morris Doud, his sisters Dorothy (Eliphaz) Meacham, Marian (Jack) Bowman, Edith (Jess) Norviel, and brother James Doud, sister-in-law Annie Mae (Billups) Malcolm.

Family members include his sons and daughters-in-law, Danny (Lorene) Doud of Eastanollee, David Doud of Milledgeville, Douglas Doud of Loganville and Dale (Orielle) Doud of Gainesville; eight grandchildren, Tammy Doud Zerbo, Amy Doud Lange (James), Chris Doud (Ashle), Rachel Doud Sanders (Clint), Jordan Doud, Hannah Doud, Brian Doud (Megan), and Jennifer Doud Atkinson (Justin); sixteen great grandchildren, Tamara Zerbo, Sara Zerbo, Zac Zerbo, Alex Lange, Katie Lange, Raelyn Sanders, Grady Sanders, Clark Sanders, Gabe Sanders, Laura Mei Sanders, Caroline Doud, Eliza Atkinson, Kaylynn Doud, Eden Doud, Sam Doud, and Isabelle Doud; sister-in-law Dana Doud, Fortville, IN, also several nieces and nephews.

A private family graveside service will be held at Stephens Memorial Gardens. Burial will follow.

Due to the conditions concerning the health and well-being of our community, the family will not be receiving friends or having a public service at this time. A public memorial service will be held at a later date.
