Lady Indians Open State at Gilmer

The Stephens County Lady Indians basketball team will be on the road at Gilmer High School this Friday night at 7 P.M. in the 1st round of the AAAA State Playoffs.

Like Stephens, Gilmer finished 1st in their Region during the regular season, but lost in the Region tournament.

Gilmer fell to Northwest Whitfield 49-39 in the Region-6 Championship on Monday. The Bobcats are 17-7 and will be the #2 seed from Region-6.

Stephens County enters the game at 21-6, and will enter the tournament as the #3 seed from Region-8.

Other games involving Region-8 teams include: #1 seed St. Pius hosting Lafayette, #2 seed Oconee County hosting Pickens, and #4 seed Madison County at Northwest Whitfield.

On the boys side, #1 seed St. Pius will host Pickens, #2 seed North Oconee hosting Heritage of Catoosa, #3 seed Madison County at Northwest Whitfield, and #4 seed Oconee County at Lafayette.

Other area teams beginning State Playoff play this weekend include in AAA boys Franklin County hosting Calhoun and Hart County traveling to Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe, and in AA boys Banks County hosting Washington. The Banks County girls will also play host to South Atlanta, and the Rabun County girls will travel to Douglass of Atlanta in the AA girls playoffs. The Hart County girls will travel to Ringold in AAA play, and in 6-A girls Habersham Central will be on the road at Sprayberry.
