Texas woman faces charges after causing Wednesday’s wreck on I-85

Authorities say a Texas woman driving under the influence is responsible for a crash on I-85 northbound Wednesday that tied up traffic for hours.

According to troopers with the Georgia State Patrol Hartwell Post, it happened at mile marker 168 southbound Wednesday afternoon when the woman, who was driving southbound, made a sudden left turn into the median.

Troopers tell WNEG’s sister station WLHR, the woman’s vehicle traveled through the median into the northbound lane in front of an oncoming tractor-trailer.

The tractor-trailer was not able to slow down and made a left into the center median.

The momentum of the tractor trailer cut through the guard wire, slicing the trailer in half.

The accident had northbound traffic backed up for about 10 miles in both northbound lanes for several hours.

GSP said the woman and the driver of the 18-wheeler suffered minor injuries.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence/drugs.
