Toccoa Man Charged in Stabbing of Franklin County Man

A Toccoa man is facing multiple charges in connection with an assault at a home in Franklin County.

“The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into an early morning assault that occurred on Williams Bridge Road in Toccoa, in Franklin County,” said Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas. “Around 1 O’ clock a.m., Franklin County 911 dispatched Officers to a Williams Bridge Road address where a white male had reportedly been stabbed multiple times.”

Thomas said when officers and EMS arrived on the scene, they found a male that had multiple wounds to the upper body.  The victim, whose name has not been released, was airlifted to a trauma center.

As of late Friday, he was listed in critical but stable condition.
According to Sheriff Thomas, a juvenile under the age of 16 was also a victim of the assault, but the juvenile’s condition has not been released.

Thomas said the alleged suspect, identified as 35-year old Ray Alvin Goodwin of Toccoa was still on the property and was arrested without incident.  Thomas said Goodwin lived on the property and knew the victim.Late Friday afternoon, investigators took out felony warrants against Goodwin.

Goodwin is charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault and cruelty to children.

Thomas said a first court appearance date for Goodwin has not yet been set and he remains in the Franklin County Detention Center.

Goodwin remains in the Franklin County Detention Center.
