Body Found in Jackson County Yet to be Identified, Says GBI

The GBI is asking for the public’s help in identifying a body found in Jackson County last  week.

GBI spokesperson Nellie Miles said so far they have little to go on in finding out who the person was and they’re asking anyone with information to come forward.

Miles tells WNEG News the body was discovered last Thursday afternoon by a visitor to Sells Mills Park on Jackson Trail Road.

The person told authorities they found the body in the creek.

Jackson County authorities sent the remains to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy, but Miles said they were not able to identify who the person was.

Miles said the medical examiner indicated there were no signs of immediate trauma to the victim.

The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released by the GBI as it becomes available.

Anyone with any information pertaining to this investigation is asked to contact the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 706-367-3784.

You do not have to give your name.
