Womack is WNEG Active Senior of the Year

Leon Womack has been named the 2018 WNEG Active Senior of the Year.

Womack received the award on Thursday at the WNEG Senior Expo at the Stephens County Recreation Department Rose Lane Activity Center.

Womack was excited to receive the award “It was the greatest feeling to know that people in the community (pause) such an outstanding award and I’m proud of it.”

Womack’s nomination cited many areas where he had served including:

Co-Chairman of the March of Dimes 5k Run that raised $18,000.

Chairman for the “Stuff The Bus” 5k. Womack secured sponsorships, produced t-shirts and prizes, and helped raise over 400 pounds of food and presented large checks on behalf of the Toccoa Rotary Club to the Neighbors for Neighbors food program, and the Toccoa Soup Kitchen.

Member of the Rotary Foundation Board that designates education scholarships and as a member of the Toccoa Rotary Club leads programs in support of Alzheimer’s research.

The nomination for Womack stated that “Leon truly has a drive to serve his community”.

Womack tells WNEG news why it is important to him “well, I live here. I live in Stephens County, and if you live somewhere you are supposed to help your community any way you can. That’s what I like to do. Any way I can help out, I try and do my best.”

Womack also received the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the year in 2016.
