Results are in, this year’s Amnesty Day was the largest yet

This year’s Stephens County Amnesty Day was a huge undertaking for County employees.

Organizers say this year’s Amnesty Day was very successful.

Amnesty Day in Stephens County took place on Saturday, April 14.

It gave Stephens County residents the chance to unload large household trash like mattresses, metal products, couches, and electronics for no charge.

Keep Toccoa-Stephens County Beautiful in conjunction with Keep America Beautiful, Stephens County and the City of Toccoa were able to hold the largest Amnesty Day yet.

Throughout the day, there was a total of 440 vehicles that came to dump their junk, 108 of those vehicles came during the first hour.

The gates of the Stephens County Road Department, this year’s location for drop off, opened at 8 a.m. and 35 minutes later the first bin was filled and transported out.

According to County Administrator Phyllis Ayers they collected and removed 151.77 tons of garbage from the houses, streets and yards of Stephens County.

The total tonnage converted to pounds is an astronomical 303,540 lbs. of junk.

Commissioner Dennis Bell has requested that during the forthcoming budget retreat his fellow commissioners should consider approving two Amnesty Day events each year.
