Activities planned for MLK day

Activities celebrating and remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday will start in Toccoa on Jan. 6.

This year’s events are the same as in years past.

Starting off two weeks of activities is the annual art contest on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Meanwhile, the annual Talent and Fashion Show will be on January 6, at 5 p.m. at the Schaefer Center in downtown Toccoa.

Moving to Sunday, Jan. 7, the MLK Oratorical and Essay Contest will take place at 3 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Activities then continue the next weekend.

On Saturday, Jan. 13, Senior Citizens Reflections will be held at Deer Court Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and will kick-off at 3 p.m.

Then on Sunday, Jan. 14, the Youth Musical Extravaganza will take place at 5 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church.

Activities conclude with the annual Interfaith Service and March for Peace in Toccoa to remember Dr. King on Monday, Jan. 15.

The Interfaith Service will be held at noon on Jan. 15 at Trinity C.M.E. Church in Toccoa with the March for Peace starting at 2 p.m. in front of Trinity C.M.E. Church and ending at Toccoa City Hall.
