Indians Basketball Sweep-Rabun Football in Final

Montavis Thornton scored 18 of his game high 26 points in the first half to lead the Stephens County Indians to a 91-48 blowout victory over rival Habersham Central in front of a large crowd at Currahee Arena on Friday night.

Thornton scored 16 points in the 2nd quarter and the Indians took a commanding 47-21 halftime lead.
Thornton led 4 Indians in double figures as De’undra Singleton scored 22 points, Ty Nails 14 points, and Chaz Bridges added 10 points.

Nine Indians scored in the game and the entire team saw game action. Habersham Central was led by Bryce Tanner’s 14 points.

The Indians are averaging 89 points a game and move to 3-0 on the season. Habersham Central falls to 1-4.

In the girls contest, Keishiana “KiKi” Latner came off of the bench to score 11 second half points to lead the Stephens County Lady Indians to a 48-40 win over the Habersham Central Lady Raiders. Latner scored all eleven in the 4th quarter and Stephens County outscored Habersham Central 16-11 in the quarter to break open a tight contest.

Tynajiah Eades and Tykia Thompson each had 10 points apiece for the Indians.

Stephens County moves to 4-2 on the season. Habersham Central falls to 0-5.

One more sports note involving a local school. The undefeated Rabun County Football Team has advanced to the AA State Championship game with a 23-12 victory over Brooks County on Friday night. The Wildcats will face Hapeville Charter in the State Title game in Atlanta on Saturday at 1 P.M.
