Habersham Burn Sends Smoke Over Stephens

A controlled burn in the region brings smoke over Toccoa, Stephens County, and the surrounding area.

The Georgia Forestry Commission reported that the controlled burn took place during the day Tuesday in Habersham County.

According to an announcement received from the Forestry Commission on Tuesday afternoon, the controlled burn was expected to spread smoke over Stephens, Habersham, Rabun, Franklin, and Banks counties.

State forestry officials said that the U.S. Forest Service conducted the controlled burn Tuesday, which was expected to be completed by 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The Georgia Forestry Commission said that the prescribed burn was being conducted by trained practitioners to reduce hazardous forest fire fuels and improve wildlife habitat.
